IFEOLUWA ADELEYE

VIOLA | VIOLIN

Ife is a high school senior who began playing the viola in 8th grade. Initially, he was interested in playing the flute, but a medical condition triggered by continuous heavy breathing prevented him from pursuing woodwinds. In 8th grade, a music teacher introduced him to the orchestra, and he initially chose the violin. However, due to an abundance of violinists that year, his teacher suggested the viola instead. Embracing the opportunity, Ife began private viola lessons and also learned to play the violin, demonstrating his adaptability and passion for music.

In School
Ife has been actively involved in his school’s music and drama programs. He participated in three drama presentations in The Pit at Wootton High School, which features an ensemble providing live background music for the performances. As a dedicated member of his school’s orchestra, Ife has steadily progressed through the ranks, advancing from the beginner to the intermediate level, and now plays in the advanced Chamber Strings. Last year, he moved up from 5th chair to 2nd chair, reflecting his hard work and commitment.

Work/Volunteer
Ife has gained valuable experience working with young musicians, serving as a floater for DC Strings during the Fall and Summer 2024 sessions, where he taught elementary school children beginner music skills. He has also volunteered with Helping Horn, tutoring young viola students in 2023 and 2024. In his spare time, Ife crochets winter hats, donating over 150 hats to cancer patients at children’s hospitals. Known for his selflessness and generosity, Ife continually inspires and motivates his peers.

Ife has played in a variety of orchestras, both in and out of school, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to music:

  • Young Artists of America (YAA): The Pit (2 performances)
  • All-Star String Intensive at Strathmore (ASSI): 3rd chair
  • Maryland Music Educators Association (MMEA): All-County Ensemble and All-State Ensemble
  • Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras (MCYO): Philharmonic Full Orchestra at Strathmore (2024-2025 School Year, just accepted!)
  • Church of the Redeemer (Gaithersburg): Worship Team performer
  • The Victor Litz Ensemble: Member
  • Mayor’s State of the City Address & Awards Ceremony: Performed twice (2023 & 2024)
  • Busking: Engages in summer busking
