Mission
Quartertonez Music is a DMV-based music school where we grow and nurture the TONEZ within. Our curriculum utilizes western classical pedagogy as well as oral, improvisation, world music and rote learning to create a unique holistic approach to teaching music. We strongly believe that every one of our students from youngest to oldest have special, creative gifts that we can cultivate, foster and hone through our unique approach. Whether you are an aspiring musical professional or a recreational learner, we encourage all our students to enjoy and fully embrace their musical passions and unlock their own special talents.

PRIVATE LESSONS
Quartertonez Music offers private one-on-one lessons either virtually, at our school, or at your home, in voice, oud, cello, violin, piano, guitar, percussion, flute, recorder, steel drum, harp, saxophone, clarinet, tabla, buzuq, and qanun for students of all ages and skill levels. Our curriculum utilizes western classical pedagogy as well as oral, improvisation, world music and rote learning to create a unique holistic approach to teaching music. Furthermore each teacher will tailor their methodology to the specific needs and talents of each student. Whether you are an aspiring musical professional or a recreational learner, we encourage all our students to enjoy and fully embrace their musical passions and unlock their own special talents.
Quartertonez music offers one group classes this fall, The Flying Notes Children’s Choir, A Bridge of Braids: A Musical History of Global Resistance. Each course has a curriculum tailored to the subject and needs of each respective group of students. At the end of each semester students present a showcase performance alongside DC professional musicians and specialists. Here at Quartertonez music we promote a family-like atmosphere and encourage both musical professionals and recreational learners to nurture their musical passions. Through collaboration our students learn life lessons about dedication, respect, and the value of hard work.
Flying Note’s Children’s Choir A Bridge of Braids: A Musical History of Global Resistance
This Fall 2021, The Flying Note’s Children’s choir will explore how music has been used in resistance struggles around the world, specifically the US, the Caribbean, and the Arab World. Students will explore their role via music in becoming active participants in this global struggle. Just as Martin Luther King Jr. stated “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”, students will understand that as Americans the inequities that exist around the world are directly affecting them here in Washington, DC. Quartertonez’ mission is grounded in highlighting underrepresented communities in mainstream music education. For that reason, we are excited to announce many exciting community collaborations for this semester who will teach us about their musical traditions and histories. This unique blending of history and music is a great opportunity for students to realize the impact of their own voices in the global social justice struggle.
